Dementia Action Week is Alzheimer's Society's biggest and longest running awareness campaign. Each year, we work with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’. This year’s campaign will run from 16-22 May and the theme is diagnosis.

The UK is facing a cost of living crisis with inflation at the highest rate for 30 years, driven by soaring energy prices and increases in basics such as food. These rising costs will impact on everyone throughout the UK, and we are particularly concerned about the impact on the already precarious position many unpaid carers face. This will also have a differential effect in parts of the UK. Where there are higher numbers of carers in receipt of carers’ benefits, there will be higher levels of financial stress.
The impact of caring on peoples’ physical and mental health across England remains high and is worse for those from some groups, according to the latest data analysis by Carers UK. [i]
This briefing provides an update of the ADASS Advice note 'Carers and Safeguarding Adults' (download below) produced in 2011 for frontline workers and brings it in line with the Care Act 2014. It is intended to be used as a practical tool and does not seek to amend or replace existing statutory guidance that may be in place. The briefing will support the improvement in practice regarding safeguarding adults as well as safeguarding their carers.

This year the UK will celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th anniversary with celebration events over a four day bank holiday weekend. Middlesbrough Council wants to help make this a weekend to remember for residents in the town and is making grants available towards community celebration events taking place over this time (Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2021).
