If you live in the North East of England and are diagnosed with a Progressive Neurological Condition you may be interested in this project.

"My name is Kathy Jackson and I am a PHD student in School of Social Science Humanities and Law, Teesside University. I am working with people with long-term neurological conditions on a project which aims to improve community rehabilitation and/or support services for people with progressive neurological conditions.

As part of this project, we are seeking the views of people with progressive neurological conditions who would like to talk about their experiences of using community rehabilitation and/or support services. It does not matter what type of progressive neurological condition you have.

We would like to hear about events/interactions within community rehabilitation and support services (e.g. from GP, physio, occupational therapy, nurse, social worker, speech therapist, support groups, neurological consultant etc). We want to find out what works well, from your perspective and will share your views with people who plan and deliver services. This information may then be used to develop, design and deliver future services to meet your needs.

You would be asked to:

  • Attend a meeting where you will learn about the Life Grid tool, be given the opportunity to ask questions and meet other people with progressive neurological conditions who have used community rehabilitation and support services.
  • Use a Life Grid tool to record events within community rehabilitation and support services that have helped you to feel in control, motivated and supported to manage your condition.
  • Take part in two individual interviews with the researcher who would like to hear how the events helped you to feel in control, motivated and supported to manage your condition, and what factors contributed to this. Each interview will last no longer than 1 hour and will take place at a time and place convenient to you.

Any of the data you provide will be anonymous and your personal details will remain confidential. You can withdraw from the study at any time up until the time that we start data analysis (1 week after the second interview)."
