What a fantastic Carers Week 2026 we've had!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year's campaign.
From local schools, businesses and community organisations to GP practices, elected members and individuals, we were delighted to see so many people coming together to recognise and support unpaid carers.
Throughout the week, we had the privilege of hearing directly from carers about their experiences, meeting carers across our communities and helping more people recognise themselves as carers and access the support available to them.
One of the most rewarding aspects of Carers Week is connecting with people who may not identify with the term "carer" because they are simply looking after someone they love. Every conversation helps raise awareness and ensures more carers know how and where to access support.
Some of the highlights from this year's campaign included:
- Receiving fantastic support for the South Tees Carers Pledge from organisations, schools, businesses and individuals committed to building a more carer-friendly community.
- Sharing carers' stories and experiences to help raise awareness of the realities of unpaid care.
- Working alongside local carer support organisations including Teesside Mind, Carers Together and The Junction Foundation to promote support available across South Tees.
- Visiting community events and activities across South Tees, meeting carers and helping hidden carers identify themselves and access support.
- Raising awareness through local media, including radio interviews throughout Carers Week
- Involvement in a regional movement to support unpad carers and make long lasting change across the region
- Celebrating organisations and GP practices that are helping to create more carer-friendly communities and services.
Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make this year's campaign such a success.
