Request for engagement from Healthwatch South Tees

Dear Colleague

Do you support adults 30+ years with a learning disability or their carers?

Then hopefully you are aware of the large piece of engagement Healthwatch South Tees is currently undertaking across South Tees, to identify what is needed to improve planning processes for when families can no longer support their family member, with a learning disability, to stay at home.

Herbert Protocol Form

People with dementia can sometimes get lost due to memory, navigation, and time confusion. The Herbert Protocol form helps carers, family, or the person themselves provide key information to the police if they go missing. It is a national scheme used by the Cleveland Police to quickly locate missing people living with dementia.

The form is used to help the police if the person goes missing. It may include information such as places where they used to live, or places where they socialised or worked.

Dementia Action Week 2023

Dementia diagnosis rates have stagnated, many are facing dementia alone, without access to the vital support that a diagnosis can bring.

This Dementia Action Week, Alzhiemer’s Society is encouraging individuals and their families to seek a timely diagnosis and avoid reaching crisis point.

Getting a diagnosis can be daunting, but they believe it’s better to know. And so do 91% of people living with dementia.

Below is the activity timetable for the week.

Carers Rights Day 2022 Tools

We have created six images which can be used to support Carers Rights Day 2022 across the South Tees.

About Carers Rights Day

Whether you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, we believe that it’s important that you understand your rights and are able to access the support that is available to you as soon as you need it.

Self Advocacy Guide

"Caring can be rewarding but also very isolating. You may not know what help to ask for, how to ask, or indeed who to ask.

Being Heard: a self-advocacy guide for carers can help you get your voice heard when you care for someone. Self-advocacy is about being able to have your own needs listened to, as well as speaking up for the person you care for.

The guide stems from work carried out by Carers Scotland and the Scottish Government since 2011, and each guide reflects the situation for carers in each UK nation.
