We Care You Care were privileged to attend the launch of the Independent Living Centre (ILC) at Meadowgate in Eston last month. We were joined by carers, health and social care professionals, local carer service providers and local councillors, all coming together to see what the ILC has to offer.
What is the ILC?
The ILC is a brand-new space developed to help people live more independently, with the right support, tools, and advice. Whether it’s assistive technology, home gadgets, or sensory equipment, the ILC is designed to make everyday life easier for adults and carers.
The ILC is a friendly, welcoming place where people can:
• Try out clever gadgets and assistive technology
• Get advice on home adaptations and sensory tools
• Learn how to stay independent and in control of their lives
It’s all about what people can do. The team works with individuals and carers to build on their strengths and help them reach their goals.
The ILC focuses on early help - stepping in before things get harder. Sometimes a small change, like a grab rail or a communication aid, can make a big difference. The sooner people get support, the better their quality of life.
The ILC is more than just a place for equipment, it’s a community hub. There’ll be:
• Workshops and demos
• Peer support groups
• Advice sessions for carers
It’s a space to learn, share, and feel supported.
The launch of the ILC marks a big step forward in how people are supported in their own community. It shows what’s possible when the focus is on early help, innovation, and person-centred care.
The message is clear - independence is for everyone and with the right support, it’s absolutely achievable.
