The new Middlesbrough dementia services run by Age UK Teesside is offering a range of free support for carers and the cared-for person.
Group sessions
The service is providing weekly group sessions (delivered at different Hubs across Middlesbrough for accessibility) to those who have a diagnosis of Dementia/Alzheimer’s and those who care for people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. The sessions will be split into two groups, at the same venue, time and date but facilitated separately. Carers will have their own session to provide some much-needed respite time to enjoy a cuppa and chat with those in a similar position while the person who has a diagnosis enjoys activities and socialising in a secure environment. Once a month the carers session will be delivered by a professional giving information sessions for carers on dementia progression, coping mechanisms and much more.

The volunteer will support the person in their own home for a couple of hours once a week. Whether this is a cuppa and chat, reminiscing or playing a game it will give the persons carer some 'free-time' to use however they see fit like including going out.
Information and Advice Sessions

Lasting Power of Attorney
The Dementia Advice Service will also be on hand to provide advice and assistance on Lasting Power of Attorney.
A power of attorney is a legal document that allows someone to make decisions for you, or act on your behalf, if you're no longer able to or if you no longer want to make your own decisions.
