We have two friendly groups, one in Middlesbrough on alternate Wednesdays and one in Redcar on alternate Tuesdays.
Both have been developed in collaboration with group members.
Our Redcar Group likes to meet up and chat about their week, share stories and tips with each other, and have a cuppa and maybe some cake. They mostly meet at St Hilda’s Church but they are looking at meeting at other cafes around Redcar as well.
Our group facilitator Julie says “I facilitate a small group for carers once every two weeks. Each carer cares for a relative who's issues range from dementia, elderly care and mental health issues. I also care for elderly parents. I am aware how challenging this can be on our own wellbeing. Therefore, it is a safe place to open up to other carers about highs and lows each week brings. We also incorporate well-being walks as well as having professionals from other agencies coming in to offer further advice and support.”
Our Middlesbrough carers community support group like to get out and about, they decide where they want to go and our wellbeing staff member Stacey makes it happen!
They’ve been to RSPB Saltholme, bowling, beach foraging and rock painting, afternoon tea, an art therapy session, local park walks as well as lots of other activities.
Group facilitator, Stacey Amerigo, says: "Being a parent carer myself I am passionate about the many benefits of peer support. Helping carers to connect, support each other and promote wellbeing is especially important to me. We are a very welcoming group and seeing friendships blossom within the group has been wonderful".
What our group members say:
