We have created a brand new page on our website for people looking after family members and/or friends who have dementia. After spending time with dementia carers through our work we have recognised it is vital that we share some information that is specific to the needs of dementia carers.
We have had the privilege of connecting with dementia carers through the wonderful dementia dances led by Dementia Action Teesside and we are part of the South Tees Dementia Network. Through these connections we have heard how rewarding caring for a loved one with dementia can be in creating unforgettable experiences and memories and just how challenging both emotionally and physically this role can be.
Research shows there are more than 944,000 people in the UK who have dementia. 1 in 11 people over the age of 65 have dementia in the UK. The number of people with dementia is increasing because people are living longer. Therefore we are keen to support our colleagues in the South Tees Dementia Action Network in raising awareness of dementia and connecting more carers to local organisations and services that can support them and their loved ones.
Take a look at the dementia carers page.
We have recently been recognised for our commitment to connect dementia carers to services and support local Dementia Friendly communities by receiving Dementia Friends certificates at Dementia Action Teesside's celebration events (see images below).
