It is almost Carers Week 2024, a national campaign highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. Locally we are passionate about raising awareness of unpaid care, encouraging more carers to recognise their caring role so they can utilise their carers rights and access support if needed.
We are Putting South Tees Carers on the Map throughout 10-16 June and beyond celebrating the invaluable contribution carers provide to the person they care for, their community, the NHS, Social Care Services and so much more. Carers across Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland want other carers to know that 'You're Not Alone', their is support available from a range of fantastic local organisations that understand the ups and downs that come with looking after a family member or friend.
What is happening?
Throughout the week there are a range of activities that you can get involved with, we have pulled together a timetable to make it easier for you to join in. Some activities require booking in advance, contact details are available on the timetable where this is necessary. Take a look below, we have created an interactive version also so you can click on to the websites of the organisations delivering the activities and also join directly to the online chats Mobilise are delivering throughout the week.
What else?
During the week we will be sharing a video to encourage more people to recognise that they have a caring role; we know that many people do not see themselves as a carer as first and foremost they are Mother, Brother, Uncle, Grandparent, Sister etc and view their caring responsibilities as part of this role. When you are providing unpaid care you are going above and beyond the parameters of your relationship. It is important that society recognises this and you recognise this so you can access your rights as a carer and connect to local support to avoid your responsibilities having an adverse impact on your own health and wellbeing.
We also have a short clip featuring photos of local carers supporting the campaign and their campaign messages. Follow us on Facebook to keep up-to-date with the local campaign and please do share our posts. Together WE Can Put South Tees Carers on the Map. Our dedicated campaign page will also be kept up-to-date as the weeks campaign unfolds.
