June 2025 Carers Week Round-Up

carers week pledge

16 June 2025

What a fantastic week we had for Carers Week!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s South Tees Carers Week campaign and signed the Carers Week Pledge.

We were overwhelmed by the hundreds of pledges made in support of unpaid carers from individuals and local businesses to GP surgeries and local councillors. Your commitment has helped us raise vital awareness of the incredible work unpaid carers do every day in our communities.

Hill Street Carers Week

One of the most rewarding parts of Carers Week is meeting hidden carers—people who don’t see themselves as carers because they are simply looking after a loved one. Helping people recognise their role as a carer and showing them the support available, or even just acknowledging the amazing job they’re doing, is what this week is all about.

Some of the highlights from this year’s campaign include:

  • Having the opportunity to raise awareness on the Radio and TV about unpaid care, including a Carers Week Special on BBC Radio Tees, an interview with CVFM, a shout out on Zetland FM, and a feature filmed by Tyne Tees, airing this week.
  • Sharing powerful real-life stories from carers in our community, like Jan Featonby.
  • Collaborating with local carer service providers; Teesside Mind, Carers Together, Mobilise and The Junction to deliver carer awareness training to around 40 professionals in Middlesbrough.
  • Attending events and activities across South Tees where we met carers and connected with professionals to raise awareness about unpaid care and the local support available.
  • Celebrating Newlands Medical Centre becoming the first GP practice in Middlesbrough to receive Carer Friendly status.

Every conversation, pledge, and shared story plays a part in helping carers feel seen, valued, and supported. Thank you once again to everyone who took part - your support helps to make a real difference.
