What is Carers Week?
Carers Week is an annual campaign led by Carers UK to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.
South Tees Campaign
Carers Together, Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, Redcar and Cleveland Mind and The Junction Foundation are hosting a range of events and activities throughout the week providing opportunities for carers to connect to support and celebrate their role and contributions. Meadowvale Care is also delivering a family fun day on Saturday, some local organisations will be at the event to support and signpost you. We have pulled the information together and created a handy timetable, please take a look and if you can get involved do. You can print the pdf version.
South Tees Carers Film
We have worked with some fantastic local carers who have shared their experiences with us to raise awareness and recognition of local unpaid carers. Please support us by watching the film and sharing it so we can raise the profile of care and help people recognise they are in a caring role.
Huge thank you to Michael, Tracy, Josh, Jade, Isabella, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Angela, Megan and Lily for sharing their experiences.
Informing Your GP of Your Caring Role
Alongside Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, we are encouraging as many people with caring responsibilities as possible to complete the South Tees Carers Carer GP Registration Form. Completing the carer registration form means you are officially informing your GP and other healthcare staff of your role which opens the door for health and wellbeing benefits. We are working with local surgeries so they are aware of these forms and look forward to receiving them to update your records.
Calling all Young Carers
To celebrate Carers Week, The Late Crew, an award-winning children’s book (aimed at 7-11-year-olds) where young carers meet aliens, is being made free as an e-book for carers charities to share.
Young carers who’ve read The Late Crew fed back how much it meant to them to have a book where young carers are the heroes. Children seeing themselves in the books they read is so important!
The ebook can be obtained and downloaded by emailing hello@wecareyoucare.info you will then be able to view the ebook on a phone or tablet, with Google Play Books (Android) or Apple Books (Apple) installed - both of which are free apps.
We look forward to celebrating the contribution you all provide to your family and friends and our community. You are valued, you are visible and we want to ensure you are supported; should you need it.
