Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council would like to work with the community to establish a hire or loan facility for beach-accessible wheelchairs for the beaches of Redcar and Cleveland. If you would use such a facility, please could we ask you to complete this questionnaire?
To complete the survey you will be prompted to register an account to share your voice on the Council's Your Voice Matters page which is quick and easy to do and the survey itself takes around 5 minutes to complete. The more evidence of need the local authority has the more funding can be obtained to push this forward.
What are beach-accessible wheelchairs?
Beach wheelchairs are specially designed to make travelling across sand or shells possible. They have sizeable ball-shaped balloon tyres that spread the weight over a large area, preventing you from getting stuck.
Anybody who has tried to self-propel or push somebody in a wheelchair across sand will know that it is virtually impossible. The wheels dig in and stop any forward motion. Beach-accessible wheelchairs give people the opportunity to access the beach without such issues.
