Today, Thursday 23 November 2023, is Carers Rights Day. Do you know your rights?
Carers UK leads the national campaign to ensure carers are identified and supported in their role to minimise any adverse impacts a caring role may have. In Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland we are pushing forward with a local campaign, we want to help more people recognise that they are in a caring role in the first place so they understand that they have options for support and rights to protect them. Carers Together is the leading carers support charity locally for adults, have worked with local BAME groups to create a short film to encourage more people from ethnic backgrounds to recognise care in communities and family units so more carers can engage with support, should it be needed. Take a look:
You can register with Carers Together here or call the team on 01642 488977
Once you recognise that you are in a caring role you can access a range of rights from a carers assessment to see how the Local Authority can support you, the right to request flexible working and so much more. You can find out all about your carers rights and follow our campaign throughout the day on our campaign page and Facebook page.
Today Carers UK has released new research highlight how caring responsibilities for relatives or friends who are older, disabled or seriously ill are having a significant impact on people’s capacity to work and earn a full-time wage. Read more and download the full report.
