What are STAR Awards?
Local community voice is key to the work of Healthwatch and improving health and social care services. People often tell them about their positive experiences of services and groups on offer in the local area, and the difference these have made to their wellbeing.
Healthwatch believes those who make a positive difference should be recognised, especially during these unprecedented times, and so the Healthwatch South Tees Award of Recognition celebrates those who make a difference to the people they support and their communities as well as going that extra mile to help others.
The STAR Awards also offer the opportunity to share good practice across South Tees.
The categories for the 2021 STAR Awards are:
- Care & Compassion
- Community Innovator
- Excellence in Supporting Others
- Leading the Way for Change
- Making a Difference (Volunteer)
- Valued Service
Who can be nominated?
The STAR Awards aims to recognise any member of the local community who has helped to make a difference in someone’s health and social care. Anyone across the South Tees locality can be nominated.
An individual, team, department, organisation or service etc can be nominated whether they are a professional, volunteer, patient or member of the public.
Healthwatch South Tees want to be flexible in our approach to nominations but focussed on recognising those who have made a real difference to someone’s wellbeing and have gone above and beyond expectations to have a positive impact.
Anyone can submit a nomination, based on their own experience, or someone they know.

How do I nominate?
The nomination process is simple. You can complete the nomination form (below) and return it to firstname.lastname@example.org with a photo* of your nominee attached.
Or complete the form and submit via our website here.
*Photos of the nominee do not have to be uploaded to the nomination form immediately but must be submitted or sent to email@example.com by the closing date to feature in the STAR Awards Nominee Programme.

When will the winners be announced?
All nominees and nominators will be contacted in w/b 22 March, 2021 with the outcome of the Judging Panel’s vote, and to notify the winners and runners up of their success.
All nominees will receive a certificate. The winners will be announced throughout a social media campaign and will feature in the Healthwatch South Tees STAR Awards e-bulletin.
Due to government guidelines around social distancing, a social media campaign celebrating STAR Award winners and runners up will take place throughout the w/b 5 April 2021.
When safe to do so, Healthwatch South Tees hope to hold an Awards ceremony and invite all nominators and nominees to attend to celebrate both 2020 and 2021 STAR Award Winners. This will include hot drinks and an afternoon tea for guests to enjoy.
Sounds like a great event to look forward to!
