Covid-19 Vaccinations for Carers

On 30 December 2020 The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) published advice which recommends that carers who are in receipt of Carer’s Allowance or are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer contracted COVID should be included in Priority 6 alongside people with underlying conditions (see Table 3 of the green Book). It is not yet clear when unpaid carers will be offered the vaccine, updates will be shared as and when available.

We support the many organisations both national and local such as Carers UK and Carers Together who are calling for vaccines for carers to be provided at the same time as the person they care for.

A key way of being identified as an unpaid carer is being registered as such with your GP practice.  If you aren’t already registered with your GP, we can work with you and your surgery to try to put this in place for you.

In the meantime, Public Health England has created an easy read guide which provides information on what to expect both prior to, and after your Covid-19 jab which may be worth familiarising yourself with now and/ or useful to share with your loved ones.
